Bilan de la toxicité aiguë

Le terbacil possède une toxicité aiguë relativement faible par voie orale. Il est également faiblement toxique par les voies d'exposition cutanée et respiratoire. Il est lég`rement irritant pour les yeux mais non pour la peau. Ce n'est pas un sensibilisant cutané.

Types d'effets observés sur le développement	Dans une étude chez les rats, les fœtus ont démontré une sensibilité qualitative accrue comparativement aux mères. Une baisse significative du nombre de nidations a été notée alors que les mères ne subissaient qu'une baisse de poids. Chez les lapins, il ne semblait pas y avoir de sensibilité accrue des fœtus.

Bilan des effets à long terme

Dans les études à long terme chez les animaux de laboraoire, les symptômes suivant ont été observés: baisse de poids corpore, augmentation du poids du foie, formation de vacuoles et hypertrophie des hépatocytes, hypertrophie des hépatocytes centrilobulaires chez les mâles, diminution du poids de l'hypophyse chez les mâles et les femelles, augmentation du rapport de poids thyroïde/corps et phosphatase alcaline élevée. Dans une étude chez les rats, les fœtus ont démontré une sensibilité qualitative accrue comparativement aux mères. Une baisse significative du nombre de nidations a été notée alors que les mères ne subissaient qu'une baisse de poids. Chez les lapins, il ne semblait pas y avoir de sensibilité accrue des fœtus. Le terbacil n'était pas toxique pour la reproduction chez les rats. Il n'est ni génotoxique ni neurotoxique et il ne perturbe pas la fonction endocrinienne.
